Welcome to Griffith!

marketday

Before your first trimester begins, it helps to take a look around, get set up and make some new friends before launching straight into your studies.

And that’s what this week is all about! Packed with plenty of fun events and informative workshops, O-Week is the perfect opportunity to meet staff and fellow students and explore your campus. Use the online planner to see all the O-Week events.

Be sure to attend the O-Week Market Day on your campus. It is the absolute best day on campus as the centre of the University is converted into a giant street market complete with live performances, roving entertainment, product sampling, and countless stalls.

No matter what classes you are enrolled in – there will be something for everyone. Visit all the different stalls to find out stacks of information on clubs you can join, services on offer and pick up a bunch of freebies to take home.

You’ll find the Griffith Library team at each O-Week Market Day, ready and willing to share everything they know about Library and IT at Griffith. We can help you set up your Wi-Fi, navigate the Griffith Uni App or access workshops to get you uni-ready.

Plus, the Library stall usually has a few bonuses, like free USBs, lollies and even fun competitions with major prizes. Enter our Mini Golf competition to go into the draw to win the ultimate Uni Survival Pack.

See you at O-Week Market Day!

Putt and win the Uni Survival Pack

golf

Get into the swing of O’Week and have a shot at our Mini Golf competition. It’s a ‘hole lot of fun!

If your golf skills are above par and you sink the ball into the hole, you could go into the draw to win the ultimate Uni Survival Pack.

Who can possibly survive uni without a giant jar of Nutella and many, many packets of Mi Goreng noodles? Nobody, that’s who.

That’s why we’ve included these two vital food groups in the Survival Pack, with other uni necessities like a bucket hat, laptop case, sports bag, water bottle, bookshop voucher and much more.

Come and visit us (the lovely library team) at our Market Day stall and play some putt putt.

We are visiting each campus over the next two weeks, and Gold Coast you’re up first! We are heading your way on Monday with our tees, balls and putters.

To play, you’ll just need to like the Griffith Library Facebook page. Show us that you like us on your device, then grab a club and take your best three shots.

If you get a hole in one, two or three, you will go into the draw to win the Uni Survival Pack. That’s right, you’ve got three chances to get the ball in the hole.

There will be no mulligans allowed (it’s a golf term; look it up!). And if your ball goes off the green, you will be disqualified.

The winner of the Uni Survival Pack will be announced on Monday 6 March 2017.

Who won the Ultimate Winter Survival Pack?

Congratulations Lauren!

Congratulations Lauren!

It was lovely to meet all of you who came to visit our Market Day Stalls last week.

We had a blast hanging with Big Red, having a sticky-beak at the other stalls; and most of all, welcoming all you brand-spanking-new students to university.

Some of you popped in for a chat, some came for the free goodies, and others swung by to find out how they could win the Ultimate Winter Survival Pack.

And entering our Winter Survival competition was super easy; as you no doubt found out. All you had to do was LIKE our Facebook page, LIKE our competition post, and SHARE it with your Facebook friends.

A bunch of you entered and went into the draw to win awesome winter goodies – like a seriously massive jar of Nutella, the cutest Emoji slippers in the world, an inflatable lounge, the Game of Thrones series and more!

So who won? Well, we threw all your names into a trusty barrel (it wasn’t the manky old rubbish bin, we promise!) and randomly drew out a winner.

Congratulations Lauren! You are the lucky winner of the Ultimate Winter Survival Pack. We are totes jelly of your new Emoji slippers! If they don’t fit your feet, you know who to gift them to, right?

New to Griffith? You absolutely must do these 8 things

newtogriffith

Welcome to Griffith University! It’s going to be a hectic week of uni prep so we thought we’d help you out with a handy list. Because, you know, the library totally has your back.

Here are 8 Library and IT things you absolutely must-do during O’Week (or else!).

#1 Attend an Earlybird workshop

Want to get ahead of the pack? Attend the free Earlybird workshops offered by the library. Run over three days, you can learn about strategies for study at university, getting started with your assignments, researching and referencing and note taking.  C’mon, who doesn’t need to know more about referencing?

#2 Connect to the wireless network

Save your mobile data for a time when you’ll actually need it – like whenever you’re not at Griffith. Use our free Wi-Fi instead! Connect your laptop, tablet or smart phone to the Griffith University wireless network. If you are a newbie, visit the Getting Connected page and follow the simple instructions.

#3 Visit our Market Day Stall

Yes, we have a Market Day Stall during O’Week. No, we don’t sell fancy toilet roll holders and dream-catchers (aren’t these typical items you find at the markets?). Instead, you’ll find the Griffith Library team at each campus Market Day ready and willing to share everything they know about Library and IT at Griffith. Plus, there’s free stuff, lollies and prize giveaways!

#4 Scope out your future study space

The library has the perfect study space for you. You just gotta find it! Whether you’re looking for a silent, quiet or social space – we’ve got you covered. We also have bookable group study spaces to help you ace all your group assessments.

#5 Set up your Copying and Printing account

Activate your copying and printing account in the library or at one of the red and white kiosks on campus. You can add printing credit via cash or EFTPOS at any of these locations. Visit the Student Printing page for more information.

#6 Get free student software

Did you know Office 365 Education for Students is available for free to students who are enrolled at Griffith University? Good thing you didn’t go ahead and purchase Word, Excel or PowerPoint already, right? But wait, there’s more! You can download Endnote and Symantec Endpoint Protection directly from the Library via the Software Download Service. Visit the Available Software page for more information.

#7 Download the Griffith App

There’s an app for everything nowadays; catching Pokémon, tracking your fitness, listening to music and sharing short videos with your friends (aka the world). But there’s only one app that puts Griffith in the palm of your hand – the Griffith App. Find campus maps, class timetables, Learning@Griffith, events, library, news, bus timetables and more.

#8 Take a library tour

If you don’t know the Library of Congress classification system like the back of your hand, you are screwed. You will never ever be able to find stuff in the library. Just kidding! But if you want a heads-up on where to find library resources ; take a 15-minute library tour at any of our campus libraries. You can also check out our libraries from the comfort of your couch with a Google 360 tour.
