Library opening hours for Labour Day

Zoe Fraser

It’s Labour Day on Monday! Labour Day ‘is an annual public holiday that celebrates the eight-hour working day, a victory for workers in the mid-late 19th century. The argument for the eight-hour day was based on the need for each person to have eight hours labour, eight hours recreation, and eight hours rest’ (Public Holidays, 2018).

Though it may be a public holiday for you, our libraries will still be open if you feel like taking the opportunity to catch up on some study! Hours will be shorter though, so be sure to check the library opening hours for your campus library before you come to visit:

Logan  12 pm – 5 pm
Mt Gravatt  12 pm – 5 pm
Nathan  10 am – 5 pm
QCA  9 am – 1 pm

Library hours over the end of year break

While it may seem as if 2017 has flown by, we’re sure that for some of you the end of year break couldn’t come soon enough!

While you’re taking a well earned break from uni, us library staff will be having a short respite too.

Griffith University libraries will officially close from 5pm Friday 22 December 2017, and will re-open on Tuesday 2 January 2018.

You can access the full 2017 – 2018 summer break library hours here. And don’t forget our library’s digital resources are accessible online 24/7, 365 days of the year!

Whatever occasion you may be celebrating this holiday season (even if it is simply celebrating Australia’s tendency to celebrate heaps of public holidays), we hope you enjoy yourselves.

Library opening hours for the Ekka show holiday

Photo of carnival ride

It’s that time of year again – Ekka time!

Chilly, windy days; carnies flocking to town; and people doing their best to avoid a winter cold.

Starting next Monday, the round of Show holidays begins!

It’s time to brave the crowds, stock up on show bags, enjoy some rides, chow down some carnival food, and revel in the the fireworks. Or skip the Ekka all together and just enjoy a nice day off. Either or.

Monday 14 August is a public holiday for Logan campus. Wednesday 16 August is then a public holiday for all Brisbane campuses (we’re looking at you – Nathan, Mt Gravatt, and South Bank). And, all good things come to those who wait. So while it is a bit of a longer wait (soz), Friday 1 September it’s finally your turn Gold Coast!

Library opening hours have changed for the Show Holidays so be sure to check the library opening hours for your campus library.

Library hours for study and exam period

You’re almost there! Just a few more weeks and the trimester will be over. You can sleep in under your doona without the pressing urgency of attending lectures, working on assignments, or studying for exams.

But we’re not quite there yet.

Next week is study week, a week long break between teaching and end of trimester exam period to allow you to study for exams.

However, we get students will often want to use the library more than usual during Weeks 12, 13 & 14 to assist with study (into the early morning even – how do you do it! Young blood?).

Books, study spots, printers, vending machines in close proximity – we’ve got you.

So, for the next three weeks, Nathan and Gold Coast libraries will open 7am Monday, and remain open 24 hours until midnight on Fridays with extended weekend hours to accommodate this.

  • Monday: 7am-12am (services open 8am – 7pm)
  • Tuesday – Friday: 24 hours (services open 8am – 7pm)
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9am – 10pm (services open 9am – 5pm)

Check out the opening hours for Logan, Mt Gravatt and South Bank campuses here.
