Electrics can be dangerous. Our parents drilled that into us as kids, when they wouldn’t let us stick a knife in the toaster (or in the powerpoints #nofun). Energex reminds us every storm season: stay away from fallen power lines. Heck, Samsung even reminded us a few years ago by expertly designing a phone that would combust in flames.
We like to keep our buildings safe, and our staff and students, too. Our L03 building requires electrical work to be carried out, so we’re shutting off power for the day. We figured you probably didn’t want to come read in the dark, so we’re shutting the library, too.
Don’t fret, we still have five other libraries open. Check out the library opening hours below:
|Saturday 19 May|
|Gold Coast||10 am – 8 pm|
|Mt Gravatt||12 pm – 5 pm|
|Nathan||10 am – 8 pm|
|QCA||9 am – 1 pm|
|QCGU||1 pm – 5 pm|
The QCA Library will be closed on Monday 30 January for building repairs.
Do you remember the crane incident last year? A crane fell on the Grey Street Studio (SO3) where the library is located and did some damage.
Well, some damage still needs to be fixed and it’s all happening on Monday… and the Monday two weeks after that. Yes, the QCA Library will also be closed on Monday 13 February.
All the other campus libraries will be open and, as always, you can access our online resources 24/7 from home, work or on the go.
Check the library opening hours for your campus library before you come to visit.
Come one, come all!
The QCA Library is open after teams worked overnight to remove the crane which fell on the building yesterday.
The Grey Street Studio (S03) was inspected and declared safe around 3am.
Were you thinking about visiting the QCA Library today? Well, lucky you checked here because the library is temporarily closed.
Earlier today, a crane fell onto the Grey Street Studio (S03) where the library is located.
The crane was working at a construction site in Grey Street when it toppled over and crashed into the Queensland College of Art building.
Luckily, only the façade of the building was damaged. Staff, students, and the crane driver are all safe and well.
Check back here tomorrow to find out when the QCA Library will be open for business.
Are you one of the 67 students who has submitted an entry in our Name the Space competition?
Clever you! You are now in with a shot to win one hundred smackeroos (that’s dollars, in case you were unsure).
If you haven’t entered, there is still plenty of time. The competition is open until 5pm, Friday 27 May 2016. To enter, simply mastermind an awesome name for the new student space at the Gold Coast campus library, visit the original blog post, and share your idea in the comments.
Please don’t comment with your ideas on this post. We couldn’t possibly cope with having to check two different places for entries (you know we have things to do, places to go, people to see).
Plenty of creative names have been submitted already. You should totally go check out the competition in this competition.
The Library Social Media Team is quite partial to a few of the names already. And just so you know, we aren’t choosing the winner. A panel of higher powers will be responsible for that.
Here are five entries that have caught our attention so far:
- The Habitat Lounge
- Bamboo Lounge
- The Green Hive
- Spacey McSpaceFace
Which name do you like? Vote on your favourite name in the original blog post. We can’t guarantee it will influence the outcome, but you never know. If you want to win the $100, be sure to submit your own super creative, original yet fitting name.
Have you seen this space? It’s the new student space on Level 3 of the Library on the Gold Coast Campus.
With group study desks, booths, computer facilities, and comfy lounges, we know you’ll love the space. You may have heard it called the Green Room, due to its Kermit-coloured furnishings, but it needs an official name. That’s where you come in.
We are confident our bright and creative Griffith students will come up with a great name! In fact, we are so confident we are putting money on it – $100 to be exact!
Share your idea below in the comments, or pop it in the entry box by Friday 27 May 2016 and the money and glory could be yours! Entry box is located near the entrance to this space on level 3 of the Gold Coast library.
- There will be one winner of the Name this Space competition
- Competition entries will not be accepted after 5pm Friday 27 May 2016
- The winning entry will be selected by a panel of Information Services staff
- The winner will be notified within 28 days
- Prizes are non-transferable and there are no cash or prize alternatives available
- The winner’s first name will be published on the Library’s Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Blog
Have you been to The Basement yet? It’s pretty awesome! No, it’s not a new hipster nightclub in the Valley, it’s the new social space for Griffith students located on Level 0 of Mt Gravatt Library.
Launched this week, The Basement provides dedicated group study pods, additional group seating and more power points. There are also comfy lounge areas to catch up with friends or just get in some well-deserved chill-out time.
Constructed last year, The Basement was designed by Information Services (INS) in close collaboration with the Student Representative Council (SRC). The space was co-designed and named by Mt Gravatt students. Thanks guys!
Information Services (Pro Vice Chancellor), Linda O’Brien cut the ribbon to officially launch the new library space this week. The PVC, in conjunction with the Secretary of the SRC, Mt Gravatt, Rou Hakimpour, thanked INS, Campus Life and the SRC team for their efforts in creating The Basement. Campus Life, Facilities Manager, Allan Perrott also praised the collaborative effort in creating the space.
So check out The Basement at M13, Mt Gravatt Library, Level 0.
