The amazing world of Google AppsPosted: February 27, 2017
We all use Google so regularly that it’s become a verb, let me google that. But nowadays, Google is so much more than a search engine.
Did you know that your Griffith student email account is Google based? And with that comes a whole suite of additional applications, called Google Apps.
To get to Google Apps from your student email, simply click on the Google Apps button (the 9 cubes at the top right of the screen). This gives you access to Google Drive, Calendar, Hangouts, and so much more. And let me tell you – they are amazing.
As a student, you’ll love the following:
Google Drive is basically an online file storage system. Our librarian’s see oh-so-many students desperately searching for their lost USB with their final assignment on it.
You can avoid this by storing your files on Google Drive. You’ll never have to worry about forgetting your USB ever again, as you can access Google Drive from anywhere (so long as you have WiFi).
Another wonderful benefit of Google Drive is that you can share folders with other people – so they can see and edit the contents too. Watch the YouTube video above for helpful tips to keep your Google Drive folders perfectly organised.
Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are compatible with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Except you can create them wholly online in your Google Drive. And they AutoSave!
As with Google Drive, you can share files with other people, and even have multiple people editing a document at once. Life-changing for group assignments.
Never miss an event again. You can easily add events, set up recurring events, and invite people to events with Google Calendar.
Google will even remind you when the event’s about to start. Those pop-up reminders are super helpful during busy times. You can also view other peoples’ calendars to see when they’re free or where they’re at. So great for time management, right?
But this is only the beginning – explore the other Google Apps and let us know your favourite!
