Study tip #1: Look at cute kittens on Instagram

Drooling over Instagram photos of avo toast and other hipster food may be a delectable distraction from your studies, but it’s not very productive.

On the other hand, studies have found that your shameless addiction to #kittensofinstagram actually increases your performance. Not into kittens? Puppies have the same effect.

In a 2012 PLoS ONE article, researcher Hiroshi Nittono and his team found that cute images facilitate improved performance on detail-oriented tasks that require concentration.

‘This study shows that viewing cute things improves subsequent performance in tasks that require behavioral carefulness, possibly by narrowing the breadth of attentional focus’, said Nittono.

Interestingly, the team found that viewing images of pleasant food was ineffective in improving performance.

PLoS ONE is the world’s first multidisciplinary open access journal. It features reports of original research from all disciplines within science and medicine.

Just think what an actual real-life kitty could do for your grades. Study sesh at the Cat Cuddle Café anyone?
