You’re invited to the Launch of the Horizon ReportPosted: April 11, 2012
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend the annual Friends of the Library Public Lecture – The Launch of the Horizon Report with special guest speaker, Larry Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the New Media Consortium.
The Horizon Report
Each year, the Horizon Report describes six areas of emerging technology that will have significant impact on higher education and creative expression over the next one to five years.
Across all the editions, the Horizon Reports have seen more than 600,000 downloads from the New Media Consortium website alone since the first edition was published in 2004.
The readership for the Horizon Report series as a whole is estimated at more than a million readers worldwide each year. The annual higher education report is translated into multiple languages and is used in some 100 countries.
The 2012 edition will be the fourth in the series of Horizon Reports aimed at understanding technology trends and uptake in Australian tertiary education.
Laurence F. Johnson, Ph.D. is the founder of the Horizon Project, which produces the acclaimed series of Horizon Reports that are now used by more than a half-million educators in nearly 60 countries, and Chief Executive Officer of the New Media Consortium (NMC), an international not-for-profit consortium dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies.
Its hundreds of member institutions constitute an elite list of the most highly regarded universities, museums, research centres, and companies in the world.
Johnson is an acknowledged expert on emerging technology and its impacts on society and education, and the topics of creativity, innovation, and how to think about the future.
With more than 25 years of experience in the higher education arena, he has served in roles from professor to dean, CIO and provost, and most recently, president before joining the NMC in 2001.
