Friends of the Library Launch EventPosted: May 20, 2010
Information Services is launching “Friends of the Library” during library week with some great events.
Friends – we all need them. They’re there for us in the good and the bad times. In fact if you read the Australian at the weekend, you’d know that a major contributor to living a long and healthy life is to have lots of friends..
The guest speaker at the Gold Coast function will be local crime writer, Katherine Howell. Katherine’s first novel, ‘Frantic’, was published in Australia in 2001 by Pan Macmillan, and won the Davitt award for crime fiction the following year. Katherine’s most recent novel, ‘Cold Justice’, was released in Australia in February 2010 to rave reviews including “a powerful and high-adrenaline tale of murder and intrigue” featuring a detective who is “a complex and appealing character whose passion for crime solving is both endearing and compelling and keeps the pace of the book racing.” Katherine will talk about the role reading and libraries played in developing her skills as a successful writer.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, regrettably we must postpone the launch of the Friends of the library at our Southbank campus scheduled for 5:30pm this Friday, 28th May. I do hope you may be able to join us later in the year for a a Friends of the Library function at Southbank.
As well as speakers there will be light refreshment and Griffith University graduates, performing as Jazz Australis, will provide the musical backdrop.
