By the time you all return from student vacation the G11 construction should be well advanced with scaffolding due to be installed before the end of July.
You’ll notice some changes inside your library too:
- A new location for the electronic training lab (G10_2.26)
- A new location for the 20 communuse computers in ‘The Lab’
- A new location for the reserve and express holds collections.
- G10 staff on level 3 will be relocated to temporary spaces on level 2 allowing a full refurbishment of the level 3 staff space to temporary student space.
Thanks to you all for your interest and support during the early construction works. It will get noisier and messier before it’s done. But will be worth the wait!
In the meantime, there are Donuts…. : )

Posted: May 3, 2012 Filed under: Campus Libraries, Library construction news Leave a comment »Between 5.30 am and 10.00 am on Saturday, May 5 Optus will be onsite installing a mobile phone aerial to the roof of G10.
Work will be completed by the time the library opens at 10.00 am so we’re not anticipating any impact on clients or staff.
Traffic control will be in place on University Drive as the mobile crane is installed onto the G11 construction site.
Further works will be undertaken from 6am on Tuesday, May 8 and continue throughout the day. High impact works will be completed by 8.00 am.
G10 internal cabling works commence May 1

Cabling will take place from the small TER room on level 2 (2.24b) to the western (University Drive facing) facade of G10.
Work will take place between 5am and 8am each day with all works and cleanup to be completed by 8am.

Posted: April 4, 2012 Filed under: Library construction news | Tags: construction, G10, Gold Coast library, Nathan library Leave a comment »A nice run of clear weather has allowed our hardworking contractors to commence piling onsite.
The southern end of the site is still to be completely benched (or levelled). Piling has begun at the northern end and will continue to Thursday, April 5.
Work recommences after the Easter break on Tuesday, April 10.
G11 Construction – update March 19
Posted: March 19, 2012 Filed under: Library construction news | Tags: construction, demo a donut, G10, Gold Coast library, library, library spaces Leave a comment »A water main rupture caused some delay to excavation works on Friday. The water main was isolated and repaired within three hours. Some impact on G10 clients and staff who were without water for several hours. Had the potential to be much worse, so well done to the Watpac team!
Carpark B works are now complete and the team is concentrating on excavation of the G11 site.
One of the spaces we’re anticipating being a big success with clients is the level 4 Skylounge. An 80 person seminar room is part of the Skylounge zone, along with lots of open space with views forever. Our architects (ThomsonAdsett) provided the artist’s impression below. What do you think?
Look forward to catching up with you all at the ‘Demo a donut’ promotion each Wednesday morning – come and see us at the client information kiosk for a free donut and a chat about the changes to your library.
